WOLLOMBI TAVERN

5 MINUTES DRIVE

Situated in the historic village of Wollombi, on the convict built Great North Road, the Tavern remains a favoured spot for travellers to and from the tourist destinations in the Hunter Valley’s wine districts.

With its large open area next to the picturesque Wollombi Brook, the Tavern offers ample room for family gatherings in this historic area. Food is available 7 days a week until late. Epic pizzas and delicious burgers are the most popular choice by all the hungry travellers. People come from miles around to try the famous Dr. Jurds Jungle Juice.

WOLLOMBI HERITAGE WALK

1KM WALK IN WOLLOMBI VILLAGE

Steeped in colonial history, Wollombi was established as the administrative centre of the district in the 1830’s. Remnants of the original, convict built Great North Road are still visible today as you make your descent into the Wollombi Valley along Tourist Drive 33. Many buildings in Wollombi Village and surrounding private homes are well preserved examples of Australia’s convict and colonial history. See the historic village, Wollemi Endeavour Museum, Saint Michaels Church, Little Yengo Gallery and the Forge.

FINCHLEYS CULTURAL WALK

15 - 45 MINUTE WALK

Wollombi means “meeting place” or “meeting place of the waters” and is an important ceremonial meeting place. There are over 300 significant Aboriginal sites dating back over 13,000 years with many sites in Yengo National Park and surrounds, well-preserved and can be visited today via walking and driving tracks.

WOLLOMBI VALLEY WINE TRAIL

<20 MINUTES DRIVE

The Wollombi Valley Wine Trail was established to promote the re-emerging boutique vineyards along the Wollombi Brook, which follows part of the Great North Road built by convicts in the early 19th century. The vineyards along the wine trail are small, boutique operations run by owner operators. You will be more than welcome at any of the cellar doors. See Milbrook Estate, Noyce Brothers Wines, Stonehurst Cedar Creek, Undercliff Winery, Wollombi Village Vineyard, Wollombi Wines, Krinklewood or Sculpture in the Vineyards.

BUSHWALKING

WOLLOMBI AND SURROUNDS

The Wollombi Valley is a great base for short bushwalks or long treks in the Hunter Valley. Bordered by Yengo National Park, State Forests of the Watagan Mountains, and Watagans National Park, a range of walks are available. Topographical maps are available at Wollombi Real Estate. Look out for 248 Trail, Hominy Creek Walking Track, Mount Olive Trail, Ironbark Picnic Area, Heaton State Forest, The Great North Walk, Turners Walking Track and the Boarding House Dam. The Visit Wollmbi Website has some fantastic bushwalking resources.

HUNTER VALLEY HORSE RIDING

40 MINUTES DRIVE

Hunter Valley Horse Riding & Adventures, Located in the heart of the lower Hunter and wine country, offers a variety Horse and pony rides for the whole family from beginners to advanced riders. Rides vary from 1 hour to a half day to camps for children. If horse riding is not your thing, ATV tours and peddle go carts are also offered.
